Overall, I still liked them more then what I played of CS so far.but CS 1 is essentially 100% setting up the other games. Most joke characters in the franchise had more depths than that one): For story, I couldn't really get into Zero's storyline.and for Ao, it has the best build up out of any Trails game.but imo the worst final chapter(the antagonists being badly written is part of the reason for that). I found that their characters are the worst written ones out of the games I played so far(so everything but CS 2 and 3), especially the antagonists(and among them, the main antagonist of Ao is the worst one in all the Trails game I played so far. Personally, I'm not that big of a fan of the Crossbell games. So overall, if you only want to experience the story, you can do so.but if you want to experience the world and talk to all NPCs.you should wait for a proper translation.

There is a fan patch that adds manual translation for main story and side quests.but MTL for anything else(including optional cutscenes and hidden quests).įan patch also has the issue occasionally using the MTL lines instead of the manually translated ones, so I would recommend having the spreadsheet ready to quickly look things up if neccessary(as well as a walkthrough since the side quests descriptions aren't translated either IIRC). Biggest issue might be that the detective notebook isn't translated at all, so you might need to look up online the quartz requirements for certain arts. It's unedited, but besides some minor issues like some Yes/No choices not being translated or sometimes the text going out of the text window, I found it perfectly playable on English.
Zero can be played perfectly fine with current fan patch(I emulated PSP version with it). For the translators, keep doing a good job!

Ao PC with the English patch is unbearable for me due to the broken grammar of it. I tried to play Zero on PSP with the English patch but I found that there are some stutters during battle scenes. The Trails franchise is notorious for being dialogue heavy.

So either you find the English patched script files somewhere or you English-patch the PSP game yourself, open the ISO file, extract the translated script files and insert them into your PC installation. Basically you need to replace the script files with the English patched ones manually. Patching the PC version though works a bit differently than doing it for the PSP game. Especially the high res character portraits and sprites look phenomenal. Everything else seemed to work just fine.īut i really can't stress out enough how much better it looks than on PPSSPP. Also keep in mind that the quest log is not possible to translate if try to apply the questlog scripts to the PC versions - inserting the translated questlog scripts leads to crashes while opening it in-game. The Chinese version fixed it, but has some extreme DRM. The problem is that the JP PC version has a bug that results in high loading times in between screens. I tested the Japanese and then Chinese PC version with the current English patch leak for the PSP version inserted and if you'd ask me (only tested it for an hour) this is the way to go.
